Firefighters Battle Explosion in South Anchorage Publicado - Published: 09/03/2010ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Rhonda McBride / KTUU).– A maintenance shed exploded Monday night, catching a nearby multiplex on fire.
The 12-plex is at 627 East 78th Avenue, near the Old Seward Highway.
The initial call came in around 9:20 Monday night, and the explosion was felt at least a block away.
Police say it appears that the maintenance shed had combustibles that led to the explosion.
The shed belongs to someone who does not live in the complex.
For now, it looks like eight families are homeless, and there's considerable damage to the front of the structure. Some of the residents may not be able to return.
Police say no one was injured.
